Weather

Alicante enjoys lovely weather all year round. Even in winter, daytime temperatures usually stay above 17°C (63°F), while summers can get seriously hot. Rain is pretty rare, and you'll find plenty of sunshine no matter when you visit.

Summer kicks off in April when nighttime temperatures climb above 10°C (50°F) and days warm up to over 20°C (68°F). The sea usually reaches swimming temperatures by May.
Summer stretches all the way to September or October, though there's an increasing chance of sudden autumn downpours caused by what's known as a cold drop weather phenomenon. Even so, September and October often see scorching daytime temperatures and balmy 15-20°C (59-68°F) nights. November still brings days above 20°C (68°F), and you can often swim in the sea right up until December.

Winter arrives between November and December, bringing earlier sunsets and cooler nights. From December through March, expect daytime temperatures around 16-18°C (61-64°F), it can feel quite warm in the sun, even though the sea is chilly. Alicante stays busy with tourists and expats throughout the winter months.
By March, winter starts to loosen its grip. Days get longer and warmer, approaching 20°C (68°F), and even the sea temperature rises above 15°C (59°F).

Best Times to Visit

Alicante makes for a fantastic holiday destination pretty much any time of year, but if you're dreaming of sun-soaked beach days, your best bets are May-June or September-October. During these months, you'll enjoy balmy temperatures between 25-30°C (77-86°F) and sea water that's a pleasant 22-26°C (72-79°F). The sun typically shines day after day.

Try to avoid late July through late August if you can, that's when Alicante and especially Benidorm are absolutely packed. If you absolutely must travel during peak summer, book your accommodation and flights well in advance. Be prepared for sky-high prices, massive crowds, and nightlife that can get a bit rowdy.

September and October weather can be a bit of a wild card with occasional rain. The Mediterranean often sees autumn storms, particularly after mid-October. That said, heavy downpours usually only last a few days and rarely cause any flooding issues in Alicante.

During the winter months from November to April, you'll find better accommodation deals and plenty of elbow room. You can still enjoy al fresco dining and drinks on terraces, plus catch some rays during the midday hours. Winter is also perfect for diving into the cultural scene, catching sporting events, or hitting the golf courses and tennis courts in and around Alicante.
